Happy Sabbath to you All!

Yes, to those asking that we will be watching the horizon over the western sea today via 5 beach cams.

As some of you know we are able to see every visible new moon on the 30th day with several of them when the crescent has sufficient lag time.

The 29th day (like today) is a different matter. We have about a 40-50% ability to sight it when there is sufficient lag time and little haze. We are probably just below the threshold tonight for that to happen.

As it looks right now the wind is shifting from the NW to the WNW. That can have an effect of blowing the haze on the horizon closer to land but at the same time generate clouds very quickly as one watches. That actually enhances visibility from a higher elevation than the shore.

From the experience we have gained over all the years of looking for the new noon in the Land from there, as well as from afar, we have been able to identify whether the crescent would be seen from the region of Jerusalem if one was in a location on the Judean Ridge looking down at the Mediterranean Sea.

I personally have several preferred locations there; with one being Har Adar just south of the community school. From there one can see the entire coastline from the Gaza up through Haifa.

Another is from the area around the big hospital to your right as you drive up to the gates of Jerusalem. That too gives one the same view.

Then there is the north side of Maale Adumim which also does the same.

We will let you know what we see later but keep in mind it is not looking good for a crescent being sighted there tonight.

But Father knows best and can give us 100% clear skies if He so wishes.
