Sabbath September 12, 2026: Take 3 There is nothing new under the sun.

Lots of questions about some claiming to have seen this very faint crescent through clouds at 19:15 pm today. No doubt many are flocking to it as confirmation, but then some are not.
As it happened, we were conducting a learning session for a bunch of brethren today utilizing many web cams along the coast in Israel. We do so from the north to the south at many of the beaches which give us an excellent view of all the meteorological conditions on the horizon where the sea meets the sky. We have done so for many years. And let’s not forget the experience of observing the crescent in the Land for decades as well for that assists in this process.
At 19:15 pm Israel time, the crescent was 5 minutes from setting behind the horizon. That is about 1 finger above the sea. That area had an extensive band of very dark clouds that reached upwards between 3-4 fingers above the water/horizon depending on the spot one was looking at.
Absolutely nothing could be seen through that thickness of clouds, not even the still bright rays of the dying sun. However, they were visible above them. Actually, one tiny opening was visible at about that time to the right of moon-set but completely back-dropped with the rays of the sun which had set.
What was visible at exactly 19:15 was Venus moving from behind one cloud and moving to another at about 4-5 fingers above the horizon where the clouds were more intermittent. That was from the web cams at Tel Aviv and Ashdod. It was even worst from those to the north.
That is exactly the angle of view the setting moon would have been seen from where the claims of a sighting took place from up on the ridge. At that height of elevation, the crescent would have been on the generous side 1.5 fingers above the horizon behind the very long band of clouds which would have appeared to be around 3.5 to 4 fingers high from there before they started becoming intermittent with their tops.
So please, where are the pictures if it was supposed to be so easily seen with the naked eye and then identified with binoculars? Imagine that!
